3 months in south america with boyfriend. what should we do?

We plan to spend 1 of the 3 months in Buenos Aires in an apartment, but keep debating on how we should spend our last 2 months after that. We want to see Iguazu Falls, wine country (maybe) and other things nearby, but not sure what we have time for (Bolivia?). Also, we will be flying back out of BA so we can't travel too far unless we take flights within the continent. I'm traveling with a 40L backpack, so lots of flexibility for travel.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Additional Details
This trip starts November 12, 2008, btw.

By the way you describe yourselves you're going to love BA and being there you are close by to many destinations. Remember that distances in South America are big.

The nearest place to go from BA is Punta del Este, Uruguay (733 Km) Iguazu falls is more than twice that distance (1,640 Km) and the Wine Tour in the Mendoza region (1,040 Km). Now the best wine in south america is located around the 35° Latitude South, on both sides and next to the Andes mountains (hot in the day, cold at night), the main cities on each side are: Mendoza (Arg) and Santiago (Chile). So this is a good reason why you should go to Santiago Chile and since it's hot take a chance to visit Valparaiso - Viña del Mar. You can go from Mendoza to Stgo by bus in 7 hours.

Finally you can take a bus from Santiago to Arica, cross the border to Peru in Tacna then from there to Arequipa (2,700 Mts above sea level) then to Cuzco (3,600 Mts) and Macchu Picchu. Take at least 6 days in Cuzco. From Cuzco to Puno (3,800 Mts) you can go either by bus or by train, but take the best one possible. In Puno you are going to see Lake Titicaca and go to La Paz in Bolivia (4,000 mt above sea level) then down to Cochabamba (2,700 Mts) finally to Santa Cruz (420 Mts above sea level) where the Bolivian Intl Airport is, to take the plane back to BA. Bolivia is cheap to take the best means of transportation available.

This is a trip you'll nevr forget

GO TO BRAZIL!

1 month in Buenos Aires, 1 Month in Rio de Janeiro, 1 month in São Paulo!

What's to do in Brazil
Rio de Janeiro
Corcovado (Mountain)
Christ the Redeemer (It's a new wonder of the world, I'm not Christian, but I've been to see the statue twice, and I don't regret it. It's amazing!)
Carmen Miranda Museum
Teatro Municipal (collection of old theatres, very worth while)
Sao Bento Monastery Complex (colonial monastery)

São Paulo
MASP – Museou de Arte de São Paulo (Best art museum in Latin America!)
Ibirapuera Park (kind of like a Brazilian central Park)
The Jardins (tons of shops)
Mercado Municipal (It's been São Paulo's main open-air grocery for a century now!)

GO TO BRAZIL!

then, do whatever you want after that.

Trying to have fun forever!

Chile is a great wine country. They love their wine. Good places in Bolivia are Isla de Sol in the highlands and Madidi National Park in the lowlands - amazon jungle! If you are up for it there is a biking adventure down from la paz to the madidi entrance town - rurrenabaque. Ride the death road with Gravity tours!!! Also in peru - Maccu Picchu is amazing although the prices are a little hiked up they're still ok.

either way whatever you decide to do make sure you ENJOY YOURSELF.

Go to Colombia! I recommend Bogota, the capital, which is in the center of the country is a metropolitan city with great restaurants, shopping, museums.. and Cartagena de Indias, which is on the northern coast has great hotels and beaches, and a muralled part of the city from colonial times which is beautiful.

I would get a car and go EVERYWHERE!
But, if I was in South America again, I would absolutely NOT miss Machu Picchu in Peru. You could go through Bolivia to get there :)
I would take a few weeks time traveling through Brazil, then Bolivia, end up in Peru - maybe see Lima - then Cuzco and the ruins and then catch a flight back to BA.
