I don't know about Dom Rp, but Belize is very beautiful and touristy, and Costa Rica is as well, at the beaches. Both are USA friendly as well.

Dont go to Belize unless you scuba, otherwise its not worth it. If you go try and work in Tikal the largest Mayan ruin currently excavated just over the Guatemala boarder.
The DR is very nice if you are looking for an all inclusive resort and a great 8 mile beach with emerald green not turquoise water go to Punta Cana, if you are golfers go to Casa de Campo just outside of La Romana.
CR is the best road trip country. Volcano's, rain and cloud forests, and great beaches.Any other time other than XMas and Easter weeks you can just pick up a car(would suggest a 4wd if you are doing a road trip, but a normal car is fine if you are just going to one of their resorts) and just drive and explore. Its possible to do a road trip XMAS week, but takes alot more planning and reservations and other time you dont need reservations.
So to answer your question, for XMAS week I would recommend either Punta Cana for beach, nightlife and water sports, or Casa de Campo for golf, and save CR for another time.
Also suggest that you look at the resolved answers under these three countries as there is a lot fo great advise there as well.
Have fun! |

Belize is a wonderful place, don't listen to the clown saying "it's not worth it." The scuba is wonderful but the country also has incredible Mayan ruins. Some are not far off main roads, like Xunantunich, others like Caracol require a 3 hour four wheel drive through the jungle. There are great rivers for snorkeling and also loads of caves you can take a canoe or tube in.
The offical language is English so it is easy to communicate and dollars are accepted everywhere. |

Costa Rica is not just a vacation spot, it's a country to explore. The DR is poverty-recked--totally depressing outside the confines of the tourist compound, er, resort. Belize is only beginning to develop its tourist infrastructure, but it does have some great places to go, if you are the more adventurous type.
After Xmas is still within the dry season in Costa Rica--excellent time to hit the beach--and it's the only one of the three that has a Pacific Coast. Just be sure to plan, plan, plan. |
