Tico Roots has a good answer, you WILL NOT have any problems on race and as for security, just be careful and use common sense as everyone else does. One of the great things about CR, everyone is treated as an equal. |

No, you will have a great time, here since the east coast of the country is the caribbean sea, we have a lot of Jamaica influence and there are a lot of african central americans, they speak spanish and patua, similar to the language in Jamaica so its another type of english. Here we listen to a lot of reggae, its a little bigger than hip hop but hip hop a growing a lot here too.
This is a good hip hop, reggae n R&b station down here http://beatz106.com/liveRadio.htm?/
A a fun and safe place to experience. The people are really friendly, youll make a lot of good friends. |

Don´t worry be happy !
People from all races get along fine here and it is not dangerous unless you go out looking for danger on purpose.
Relax and enjoy Costa Rica.

Honestly, you should not face any problems having to do with your race. We do not have many black people, but the ones we do have are treated fine. There is like no prejudice at all, i promise!
Just keep in mind that as any foreigner should, stay with your group, know where you are, and dont do anything stupid like wave a bunch of money of something valuable around. but dont be alarmed, Costa Rica is THE best place to visit in central america because of its safety and activities. just take the same care as you would travelling to any new place.
I know that if you go to CR, you will love it so much and it will be an experience you will NEVER forget! so dont worry, and have fun!
PS. let me just tell you that some Ticos like to call others by nicknames. so if someone calls you "Negra", dont be offended. They are most likely not trying to be rude, its just a way to point you out. just like they might say "Gordo" for a larger person, or "Macha" for a blonde. But usually ticos reserve this for friends. Just don't take it personally.
anyway have fun! pura vida |
