Am I too old for crushing in a hostel in Punta Arenas?

I just turn 34 and in my last travel I was the oldest person in the place, including the manager!!, now I am deciding if I’m going to book for an hostel or an hotel in Punta Arenas. Hostel are cheaper but the services are not as good and I hate when someone opens the door in the middle of the night, searching for his also drunk buddy, my god I sound like my mother.
HELP!

Yep, you do sound like a mother, LOL, the exact thing happened to me but the turning point was with a lad in a BBQ that called me Mam. Anyway, there are cheap hotels in Punta Arenas and because you are coming from a hostel experience you will overlook some details. You are growing up, instead of growing old, don't worry. Here is a site for making easier the transition.

do you really care what others think?
you also could try cabinas which run typically from 25.- to 50.-

You'll do fine. Sounds like you need to increase your liquor intake a bit so you feel young stupid and indifferent to it.

I have done my fair share of crashing in hostels. I don't think you are too old to stay in one, but as an intermediate option, there are hostels that have both dorms and private rooms. Stay in one of the private rooms that you get the best of both worlds - meet new people AND have a bit of privacy. There is not a whole lot going on in Punta Arenas so this would be a really easy way to enjoy the city more by have some people to hang out with.

Crushing eh, be quicker to just run out into the traffic. I managed a hostel in Tn USA for a spell, and it was quite common to have folks well into their 40's even 50's. The majority were younger of course, but the older ones seemed to be quite well respected, and I never had any complaints about bunking them all in the same cabins.
