Juan P is wrong. The amazon river starts in Nauta Peru....about 60 km from Iquitos Peru.

Another fact is they just identified the 3rd largest waterfall in the world is in Peru up in the north.

Peru has the highest elevation in the world. It's so high that no world cup games can take place there because soccer players from other countries aren't adapted to the altitude.

On Lake Titicaca, there are man-made islands make out of reeds. Some people live on them, and keep on adding reeds onto their island to keep it floating.

There is a drink called chica (not chica morada) that is made from fermented corn. It's made by people chewing it up and spitting it out, then storing it away for some time until it's fermented by the spit.

In Peru, coy is a popular dish. In America, coy is a pet (also known as a guinea pig). The Peruvians keep these rodents running around in their storage room or kitchen until they are plump enough to eat.

The old inhabits of Peru, the Incas, were given that name by the Spanish. The only "Inca" there was back then was the emperor. When the Spanish came, they thought that they all called themselves Incas, and gave them that name.

Old farming traditions in Peru are still used today. Peruvians still create terraces, which is a way to farm on the hills. Another old tradition was to wrap the seed in an anchovies as a fertilizer for the crop.

no, there is more biodiversity in Bolivia, and the amazon river starts in Brazil, the largest mountains are between Argentina and Chile, but they have great food.(the deepest canyon is not there, though)
