Do the Inca Trail.Don`t miss the sunrise. You gotta get energy from the solar clock ITS A GOOD EXPERIENCE...you just put your hands on top of it and you will feel like new!!
Also try going to the Sacred Valley ITS AWESOME, at night you see all the stars in the sky meeting the moutains...is like a dream.
When you are in Machu Pichu, ask the tour guy where is the temple of the moon and sun...you have to walk like 2 hours to get there but its an experience you dont wanna miss. |

If you're in good health, I'd say hike the trail. If you have any doubts, though, take the train - you'll still get some really beautiful views, that way. I'm in good health, and I was surprised by how hard it was for me just to walk around up there! I had to keep sitting down to catch my breath, and all I was doing was strolling around the ruins.
I'd say plan on spending a few days in Cuzco beforehand, so you can get acclimated to the altitude. Then decided whether you'll be up to hiking the trail. |

go through the sacred valley. you can catch the bus from cuzco to pisaq. they have other great ruins there too. the whole valley is full of ruins and trails. if you do find youself in pisaq stop by Ideas restaruant or artisano hotel and ask the owner about some of these. he knows newly discoved ruins similiar in granduer to macu picchu with no tourist. to hike the inca trail to these its only $10 and you are not following the prosession of tourist. if you see Machu picchu by train you can catch it after travelling the sacred valley. from here its only $40 instead of $120 from cuzco. The sacred valley is worth it to see the markets and how the modern day inca's live. its humbling and very unique. have fun. local buses through the sacred valley are around 60 cents an hour and fully safe. and it high up there I got winded so fast hiking around. I felt like a wimp when older ladies would pass me on the trails carrying loads of goods. |

Definitely hike there on the Inca Trail. Although it is tough, it is a much better experience than taking the train all the way there. |
