Guatemala is part of North America. I don't have any interesting stories, but it is a beautiful place to visit.

.:Deesse D'amour:.
I go there every christmas.Nothing weird ever has happened to me, just had a lot of good times, getting drunk and partying..........Nothing dangerous has ever happened to me on my trips to Guatemala, its all common sense, and dont believe the news, the only reason those 4 Salvadorean cops where killed was because they were crooked cops and were involved with the Mara Salva and once the Mara Salva Trucha(Salvadorean gang which has influenced most of Central America) heard that the cops were going to be interoggated they killed them in jail.Dont belive the news, they are defamation. The only way to get hurt in Guatemala is if you go looking for trouble, if you are in a Gang and have madd tatoos of your gang, or if you go around flashing a Rolex and nice stuff.GUATEMALA IS BEAUTIFUL

Guatemala is in central america, not south america.

Yes, first of all, Guatemala is in Central or Latin America and second, it is an amazing country!!

I lived there for 6months and never had any safety issues (even as a single girl, traveling alone). What kind of interesting stories are you looking for?

I climbed several volcanos while I was there, including Tajumulco, the highest point in Central America and Pacaya where you can stand 3ft away from rivers of lava oozing from the Earth! I visited gorgeous little remote villages where the people are so friendly, albeit a bit shy and not used to tourists and also massive tourist traps like Chichicastenango (but its still worth it to see the priests and the wonderful array of colors!).

I had an exciting adventure on the east coast that included a beautiful river trip, dancing Garifuna style on the beach in Livingston and sleeping over night in Tikal (the history and atmosphere there is incredible).

I loved Xela (Quetzaltenango)! The people are very friendly and open to travelers, but its not overrun by them like Antigua. You can learn Salsa and spanish in no time and there are a magnitude of volunteer opportunities...

Anything else? I could go on forever - its a fantastic country!
