What I liked most:
- Panama Canal ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_Canal ) - an amazing technical wonder. The best place to watch huge Chinese ships is in Gatún locks, you can get there by bus from Colón. There is no admission charge to this lock (unlike Miraflores) and local guides make a thorough presentation in English and Spanish.
- Panama Railway ( http://www.panarail.com ) - the oldest transcontinental railroad in the world, another way to see the Canal. One train a day from Panama City to Colón. Word of caution: Colón is dangerous; take a taxi ($1) from the train station to bus terminal and do not walk around.
- Portobelo ( http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/135 ), an ancient Spanish fortress city close to (and accessible by bus from) Colón
- Museum of Panama history and Museum of Panama Canal ( http://www.panamacanalmuseum.org/ ) in Panama City, a necessary complement to the visit of Gatún locks. Close to the museum (in the center), there are amazingly cheap restaurants - a good buffet lunch for $1.50 or so (and not only there).
- Panama Viejo ( http://www.panamaviejo.org/ ), remains of the original colonial city outside the modern city
- Mountainous landscape in Chiriquà (western part)
A lot to enjoy! |

Panama is a lot more than the Canal: bird watching, beaches, rivers, natural parks, night life, restaurants, etc, etc.
Just keep in mind that October is the rainiest month of the year. "Dry season" (no rain) is between end of December and beg. of April.
You will not regret at all!!!!! |

Visit Bocas del Toro, Boquete, Cerro Punta, Catalina Beach (if you like surfing), Playa Blanca & the hotels, Panama Canal, Old Panama ruins, the Old Quarters of Panama City, Amador Causeway at sunset, Isla Grande, etc. |

Panama is a nice country, there are many places to go and see. You have the Canal of course, then you have old Panama City (the ruins), many beaches up and down the coast. The duty free shops in Colon. Waterfalls in La Chorrera, some nice parks full of wild life. Up in the northern part you have Bocas del Toro, and there is the islands to go out to.
It is a awsome place to go, never get enough time when I go, to do everything I want to do. |
