Anyone familiar with Costa Rica?

I'm going to Costa Rica for vacation with some friends but we don't know where to book our hotel at. We want to be close to the beach and all the exciting things and of course the nightlife.. can anyone help us figure out where we can stay?

The best beaches in Costa Rica are in the Northern and Southern Pacific zones. There are plenty of hotels that cater to the tourist trade, including resorts that offer everything included prices. The place to stay would depend on your daily budget for lodging.
There is plenty of information on hotels, weather, money exchange rates, etc., in the TicosLand website. Visit Costa Rica's leading directory and see for yourself.

If your interest is nightlife and you are going to be flying into San Jose and you can deal with an ok beach (costa rica has soooo many different types of beaches) Jacó is your best bet its about 2hrs bus from San Jose and they have a ton of hotels or hostels. I would say that if you are traveling to CR it is a waste to spend your whole week in one place. You should deff visit the volcano in La fortuna (volcan arenal) and also go ziplining in monteverde. But if you would prefer one place only I would say either Jaco or Tamarido. Tamarido which is very touristy but the beaches are prettier than in Jaco. Tamarido is much farther from San Jose but you could get a flight from the US to Liberia Int airport instead of San Jose. Either one are very accessible by paved roads and easy to get to. If I had to choose id go with playa Tamarindo waaaaay before Jaco. I can give you alot of specific information if you want to you can email me I would be willing to help, here are some web sites as well.

Tico Roots.
Well if your looking for beach and ´nightlife you might want to book a hotel at Jaco Beach just do some research in google and call different hotels. Jaco Beach is very close to San Jose the City and its also very close to National Park Manuel Antonio Beach which is a very beautiful beach so you can have fun at night in Jaco and Have fun in the day at Playa Manuel Antonio, its beautiful. Just always make sure you are around a lot of people when you party at night don't be walking by your self in quiet areas, its always good to have safety precautions. Ok Have Fun !

Your best bet to find out where to go is to get a guide book - Lonely planet and Moon Guide for Costa RIca are my favorites - you can find them in any bookstore or on Amazon./com

Stay at Hotel Parador in Quepos. It is only a walk from the beach and is really nice. Plus, it's by Manuel Antonio National Park. you should take a cab from San Jose to the hotel.

here is the website: www.hotelparador.com/

It's a really nice hotel :)

I just got back from 10 days in CR. We stayed in San Jose for two nights but that is an ugly, dirty city. This was a tour so we stayed all over the country, two nights at each location. The beaches are not all that impressive (I've lived in Daytona Beach and Virginia Beach) so maybe it was just me, BUT the rain forest area and the volcano areas are really impressive.

In San Jose, we stayed at the Aurola. In Tortuguero National Park we stayed at Pachira Lodge. At the volcano, we stayed at Arenal Manoa and that was very nice! They had a nice pool, would that work for you? We spent two nights at an all-inclusive resort on the beach in Puntarenas called the Doubletree Resort by Hilton, which was nice. Seriously, though, you'll be disappointed in the beaches. This tour was through Caravan.com and it was VERY reasonable, ten days, included all meals. The guide and driver were both wonderful and the people were lots of fun. We got to see everything that CR offers and it was fabulous!

By the way, in all my "beach trips" (Jamaica, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, all over FL and up the east coast), the prettiest beach I've seen is Dominican Republic. Have fun!
