Hi Chicho, I am Peruvian and run an Adventure Travel and Tourism organisation in Peru called Karikuy. There really is so much to love about the country, I'm sure you won't want to leave after your experience there. The food is incredible, definitely try the Ceviche, it's fish with a lemony sauce that just makes you drool, literally. I usually take my clients out to Callao which has the best Ceviche over in La Punta. We sit on the second floor of the Cevicheria staring out into the waves of the Pacific, Pelicans flying over us as we drink our bottles of Cristal our national beer (not to be missed as well). That's one of my favourite things to do, but there are many.
Winter in the USA means Summer down in Peru, the best and most fun time to go would be in February during Carnival. Water balloon fights break out on the streets as everyone is trying to prank other people, the beaches are packed with everyone bringing their cases of beer. Of course there is always night life to be found in Lima and especially at the international bars and discotecas in Cusco.
I could write on and on about Machu Picchu and hiking the Inca Trail. Or heading down to Huacachina and sand boarding some of the tallest sand dunes in the world. Your biggest problem will be cramming so much into so little time!
If you need any help I offer my assistance, My company is run by me and my family I am also a guide in Lima.
We have 5 day tours starting at $499!
I leave my links below... |

I liked Machu Picchu the best. It´s an amazing experience. Really awe-inspiring, and definitely my favorite part of the trip.
And the people of Peru are very nice and hospitable .. and accommodating even if you only speak limited Spanish. But remember to be careful of would-be thieves, especially in Lima. It is important to use common sense.
I had several guide books with me to help navigate my month-long excursion, and the link below helped me when I started to research the trip:

Other interesting phenomena that happen to me once I had been in Peru at Camana-Arequipa with my girlfriend walking by the square and settle in a bar to drink some bears called cristal, for just before when we had ask for cusquenean bear at the restaurant, it had run out of bear, so we look for other place and we enjoyed of cristal bear which had become so far the most delicious bear that I had ever drunk in my whole life, then it bring me back to the past to the symbol of the sphinx that Milagros had seen at one time while she was painting, she also had seen my image, and a symbol of Aries, in addition she had seen fire falling down on me in which I was typically dressed like a sort of Inka.
As for the sphinx I had learned so far that Egyptian had symbolized a lion and a pharaoh in one statue. Well there were as well many speculations about the enigmatic sphinx as that one mentioning that it would have a secret passage in one of the legs an secret entrance to the main pyramid. But I try to see this symbol now in front of me, I had realized that the bear company was located in Lima by the rimac area, rimac had been the name of the main river in Lima, and rimac had been transformed into Lima in time. Rimac also remind me to Egypt, Lima a dessert area, the nile river and the goddess called Isis the goddess of fertility, The goddess who tapeworm ram's horns overhead and the barley’s princess which the bear is made with. At least I would have a first key for what I was looking for so long, but my doubts were increased in every moment since all of them were very subjective, the connection with our right brain was a complex process but I was sure that I will have more evidences in the long run and realized that our life is ruled and fated by some forces. According to astrology the planets, stars and constellations ruled the people destiny, meanwhile in andean religion the mountain would ruled our destiny, maybe would be the magnetism forces that would affect the human behavior as the moon that was very well probed not only in the liquids the ocean, but the people itself, if the moon would affect our behavior then why not the other planets and the earth and mountains itself.

long time ago. Some time in Lima, then Cuzco / Macchu Picchu. Fun times drinking pisco sours & algarrobinas...
Liked the train ride from Cuzco to Macchu Picchu, though I didn't like having to get to station at 5 am or whenever. Pretty darned impressive sight up on that mountain.
but what I liked the best: flying in the cockpit over the Andes on the way back from Cuzco to Lima. Dayumn! Such sights I never saw before and will never see again |
