I have been there a few times. My longest stay was 2 years. I lived down by the canal on the Pacific side, on the old US army base (Ft. Clayton). The last few times I have been there I stayed at my house in La Chorrea, which is North of Panama city. I have been all over the country. Down around Panama city there are many good resturants to go to or down by the Bridge of America on the causeway there are some good resturants also. The prices are pretty reasonable, you get alot of food for the money. There are many sites to see not just the Canal.

My wife and I did a couple of weeks at the Royal Decameron Beach Resort, about 2 hours West/Northwest of Panama City.

It was nice, very hot. Your typical all-inclusive beach type vacation. Did day trips to Panama City, to the ruins of the original Panama City, the old colonial part of the city and the miaflores locks on the canal. We weren't exactly immersed in the culture being on this type of resort but it was a nice place and the people were friendly. When you were in the touristy areas there was always tourist police around, I felt very safe. Interesting place, I would go back.
