Are US Tourist safe in Venezuela?

After years of living in several Latin American countries and travelling to venezuela 5 times, I can assure you that Latin Americans hate their own government more than anything else. I would suggest you are completely safe in saying "You hate Chavez" to anyone that is middle class or wealthy and safe 90% of the time when saying it to a poor person. I wouldn't advise doing it, but you understand that their response to such a statement would be a shrug of the shoulders, at worst. I met 3 people in 5 years of living in Argentina of people who were Anti-US/IMF/Imperialist, the other 10,000 were Anti-Argentine government. The same holds in most countries in latin America, except perhaps Brazil, Chile and Mexico that have serious governments.

Venezuela is one of the most dangerous locations in South America, but none of that danger will be because you're American as opposed to any other country.

I have gone three times and I have had no problems. They are pretty happy and laid back, and Caracas is beautiful and full of cool bars, clubs, and restaurants to go to. The country has beautiful beaches, I recommend "Los Roques" and "Morrocoy" my favorites there. BUT I have only stayed and hung out with well off people in nice areas. If you are staying in a nice area/hotel, don't even sweat it.

US people are safe, it is a very safe country. Of course cities have good neighborhoods and bad ones, as in all the cities in the world. It's a beautiful country and people are very friendly. They are not looked at the same way Chavez does, of course in other instances like in the government, banks, private sector, etc if you disagree with him the economic future of your company or bank, or whatever ends....but of course, he has a loose screw in his head, so this doesn't reflect what the general opinion is. Have fun there.

Venezuelan are very friendly people. ChavÃ©z is the exception.

The best thing I could say for you to do, is contact any U.S. Embassy and get a report on our current relations with that country. I'm quite sure they will tell you that we're not on good terms with them. There also might be travel warnings, threat warnings, or other information that you might need. Try that first, and play it safe. Chavez definitely hates us, so I would not put Venezuela tops on my travel list.

It depends on the american. If you are neo ***** and go round sugesting Chavez should be taken out you should not go. However if you you are friendly, you make an effort to speak a bit of spanish and treat folk with reverence and an open heart you will find most poeple very friendly. I would also avoid political rallies and head out into the regions rather than hang around in Caracas.
