Are most South Americans of native or European descent?

North America is primarily populated by people of European descent, except for mexico

(which raises a second question, why is the USA and canada mainly European sescent while mexico is not, all three were European colonies but in Mexico, it was different)

I ask this question because you see countries like Argentina, uruguay etc that have many people of European descent, like North America. but then in countries like Brazil, it is the other way around.

Another Question, why did these different parts of the America's develop differently in regards to demographics and the population of people that have native descent? Why so small in Canada, USA, yet so large in Mexico and Brazil?
Additional Details
I thought I would ask this question here as well because much of the topics in the geography and the social groups section are dominated by the United States.

Thanks.

Generally these countries massacred the native ones and fomented the Europeans' immigration.

The topic treats itself very well in the page of a friend:

In one word, slavery.

Spaniards decided that it was better to keep the natives as slaves than to annihilate them like they did in North America. Eventually, native, white, and black (from African slaves) races merged and gave birth to the mosaic that now is Latin America.
There has been a small constant influx of European immigrants throughout L.A. in the 20th century. However the countries of the southern cone (Argentina, Uruguay, and to some extent Chile and Brazil) received large quantities of immigrants from Europe in the early 1900's.

I hope I solved your question.

In Venezuela we have a strong mixture of races, there are european descendents, african descendents, aborigin descendents, and there is a strong mixing that results in many mulatos, morenos etc.

About me im european descendent not mixed however i know that all my grand parents were born here and i had the oportunity to ask them about their grand parents origins and all of them were born here too but the grand-grand parents of my grand parents were originally from here, others from somewhere in Spain and some others from Portugal i think we are talking about 300 years ago or so.

And something curios when you watch our popular tv station and tv shows the 90% of the poeple that you see has european characteristic (white), the other 10% only few you will see with black or aborigin charactristics, but when you go out, you will come up with this people characteristics in every corner.

over all every country has European decent....some more than others
the countries with the most natives are peru and bolivia, the countries with the most mestizo are mexico, colombia, and venezuela. while countries like uruguay and argentina have a lot of whites or european decent.....Ecuador, Chile, and Brazil have a lot of european decent as well as mestizo natives and mulatos. over all central america has a lot of mestizo and a little bit of european decent. there aren't a lot of natives in canada and the us because when the english conquered the area they killed most of them.

That is historical question, you will have to read early history of both Americas to really get it. It is all about colonies and who got independence and how europeans were treating Native Americans, what they were using them for, etc. You really need to read history of both Americas to get it right. Also you have Amazonian jungle where natives were hiding from Europeans
