Bolivia is beautiful, and prices are really low. My suggestions in Bolivia: Coroico (Bolivian jungle, land of the African-Bolivians), Copacabana (margins of the Titicaca Lake) and La Paz.
Argentina is great, a little more expensive than Bolivia, but still very cheap for Americans and Europeans. Best places: Buenos Aires (great nightlife!) and Patagonia.
Brazil is expensive, but you asked about the best place to travel in South America and your answer is 'Rio de Janeiro'. Other great destinations in Brazil: Florianopolis (island, European colonization), Recife (a lot of culture, great music) and Manaus (Amazon rainforest).
Check information about Rio at www.ridearoundrio.com/information . |

bolivia is the most beautiful place i've ever been, but it is high up and quite scummy, so it's not the easiest place in the world. Brasil is huge. The bits ive been to have been nice. Manaus is esepcially cool. Paraguay is probably only worth it if you have some parageezers to show you round, otherwise it might just be a little bit weird. Venezuela is dangerous but has beautiful beaches and is cheap to fly to.
why don't you fly to rio and then get another flight to Manaus, then you can get a boat to guajamerin or crucero del sol or somewhere and head up into the mountains in peru or bolivia. that would be really cool. there are some towns in the jungle in peru that you can only get to by a boat or a flying plane! the boats take ages and you have to ssleep in a hammock, but you will get to meet some funny missionaries and transexuals. you will also get to drink lots of beer and look for crocodiles on the riverbank at night. |

I'd say for culture and beauty go to Argentina. |

I've only ever been to Bolivia in South America and I'm going back later this year and I will also go to Peru & Argentina. I personally would recommend doing two countries while you are there.
Bolivia and Argentina.
In Bolivia go to La Paz, it's a beautiful city. |

Having been to all four countries several times I would pick Brazil first, Venezuela second,Bolivia and then Paraguay. They are all very good choices but Brazil is huge and it has such an abundance & variety of things to see and do.... See link below:
