I went to the El Tatio Geysers, in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. They were rather good, you can bathe in the springs there (essentially outdoor rock pools with the bubbling spring water and whatever minerals they have in then).
We hung around after the coach parties had disappeared and it was just us there, so nice and quiet.

- "Termas de Cauquenes" 117kms South from Santiago. Posh, good hotel, excellent restaurant. One day trip if you prefer.
- "Termas del Flaco" 219kms South from Santiago. Two days trip at least. Go to the hotel at the end of the valley; they have authentic natural pools. Nearby you can find dinosaurs petrified steps. It's the best one in Chile, in my humble opinion. Closed in winter. Amazing landscapes.
Plenty years ago, the most cosy one was the "Termas de Puyehue". But the same happens than in Chillán: buildings, noise, fashion...
