Dont wear flashy clothes. Use two wallets. A crappy one with a photocopy of your US Drivers license and maybe 20K pesos in it. Put that one in your back pocket. That way if you get pickpocketed, your only out 10 bux. Put the other wallet in a front pocket. Dont take a lot of cash. Most everywhere takes credit/debit cards (Visa) Dont take non radio taxis. Call 2222222 or 3333333 and theyll come to your door. Dont be downtown late at night.. Dont leave your drink unattended. Dont believe any story anyone tells you. Do see the sights. Gold museum, Monserrate, Zipaquira, Melgar, Giradot, Cartagena if you can swing it. Just dont be stupid and youll be fine.

Be as safe as you would traveling in most any major U.S city.. if you show off and look rich you are a target...I lived there for two years and never had a bad experience like I did working in L.A.

Best way then it is not to visit it, that is a dangerous place and when you go on holidays you want to enjoy and not getting worried of being kidnapped. Go to anywhere else safer.
