Bringing prescription meds to Costa Rica?

what do I need to bring prescription meds to Costa Rica? I am on ambien and valtrex and I ripped my name off the bottle of my Valtrex, because it would be horrible to lose the bottle with my name on it...So will they hassle me because of that?

J'adore,

All prescription medications must be in pharmacy bottles identifying them as yours per TSA rules. This means if you are flying from the U.S., you can actually have an issue even before boarding your flight to Costa Rica.

My advise is to call your doctor or pharmacy, tell them you are leaving on vacation and need extra medication for your trip. You will then have your medication in a proper container.

Enjoy your trip!

Mike
What is the big deal about losing a bottle with your name on it? It's just your name, that is not privacy information.

Anyway, that could be an issue. Per TSA and Costa Rica Customs regulations, all perscriptions must be in a pharmacy bottle with your name clearly printed on it. Also, US Customs will hassle you when you return, and quite possibly send you to secondary screening.

Get a new bottle with your name on it, and take that with you.

Hey, dont even worry about that. I am in the same boat as you. I take propecia and I dont want anyone knowing that I am taking it. I have had to travel into Costa Rica from the US several times now. Just keep your meds in your pocket. Stuff some cotton in the bottle so the pills dont rattle around and when you go through just make sure you dont have any metal on you so you dont set off the metal detector. If you do they will probably search you then. But dont worry, its so easy and I do it everytime I travel

By law, yes you need to have them in prescription bottles etc.

That being said, I've brought my script with me in a single bottle. I put everything that I would need all in one bottle. That included vitamins, tylonel, and my scripts. It saves space and no one has ever questioned me about it.

It wouldn´t be a problem as long as they are prescription medications and don´t bring like huge quantities of itthat will make the custom agents think your doing business.
