I'm with you Dad.
If your son were going to Honduras as a member of a military unit, he would not need a passport to get in; all the admission requirements would have been satisfied by the military. If he did go as part of a military unit, all his travel around in Honduras would need nothing but his military ID.
But, if he is going as a private citizen, even though his military service is much to be admired, he is going to need a passport (and a visa I think but am not sure).
Also, make sure he gets some good travel medical insurance because his military ID is not going to help him for that either. Go to http://www.wavehelp.com/travel-medical/index.htm and click on the little red phone booth to go to Travel Guard and read about Worldwide Health insurance.
Best wishes

From everything I know, you can not use a military ID. An official passport must be used.

You din't say if you are a usa citizen or where are you from, you can use a honduran id if you are honduran, but if you are an american citizen of course that you need a passport...an american Id you can use it here within usa but is not accepted in honduras... trust me, go ahead and get a passport.
