This is what I wrote to another person in this same category. It will give you a glimpse of all the places I could recommend you to visit. Why these? well, you cannot see everything in one visit so I'll start with these and then go on to others.
I'll try and make it short:
Peru: Machu Picchu in Cuzco, lake Titicaca in Puno, Caral (the oldest city in all Latin America).
Chile: easter island and its Moais, Atacama desert, Lakes and fiords in the south, Torres del Paine (south in Punta Arenas)
Ecuador: galapagos islands, equator line.
Uruguay: Punta del este (famous seaside resort)
Paraguay: Misiones churches from the Jesuits.
Argentina: pampas, estancias, Patagonia region, Mendoza.
Colombia: Cathedral of salt near Bogota.
Venezuela: parque nacional Morrocoy.
Brazil: Rio, Buzios, Angra, Bahia.
I could probably go on forever, this is just a very short glimpse of the beauty of south America, and I even didn't finish with all the south american countries! |

"El Salto Angel" the world´s tallest waterfall is in Venezuela in the amazon jungle. Venezuela also has beautiful beaches like the ones in the Morrocoy Keys, Los Roques and Margarita Islands just to name a few. Recently I went to a small village called Chuao of the coasts of Aragua where they have a cocoa plantation and have many traditional religious festivities like the dancing devils. |

Off the beaten track would be Curtiba, Brazil, also Iguassu Falls, which is where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay all come together. These are all inland.
So. America's a big country, you may wish to consider Peru, Chile, Bolivia...........you need to narrow your choices down to get better information. |

I'll suggest you to go to Colombia. There you can find everything. If you like the beach, go to San Andrés, Cartagena or Santa Marta. If you prefer mountains, go to Bogotá or Tunja. If you wanna know more about coffee, visit the "Coffee-Zone" (Manizales, Pereira and Armenia). If you wanna know a very traditional city, go to Pasto.......
Anyway, you should think first in what do you want, then look for it in Colombia. |
