Can anyone tell me about the Republic of Panama? |
My husband wants to move us out of the county, he's leaning more towards Panama. Can anyone share the positives as well as the negatives living there raising a family, cost of living, crime, health care system, etc. Which part of Panama is the best place for Americans? Thanks |

Panama Rocks!!! It's cheaper than the US,thus you can live like a king for less money. It's very modern. Security is pretty good in most areas. Lovely beaches. Health care is very good, most doctors at the best hospitals in the city do a portion of their studies in the US. The second language is English.
Cons:
The traffic!,crime in certain areas (if you jsut avoid them, you'll be alright),and I can't think of anything else LOL
Where to live?
It depends on your salary range, but I'd totally recommend Costa Del Este, Paitilla, San Francisco, or El Cangrejo. These are all pretty safe and contain a fair amount of foreigners and US.
Again, Panama's the place to be right now, the oonly big con I can think of, is the traffic (narrow streets and a lot of cars, angry skilless drivers). |

Panama is a beautiful country, it's very safe and the health care is affordable and excellent (most doctors studied in the US). The economy is prosperous and the infrastructures are much better than many Latin American countries, especially around Panama City. English is widely spoken in the cities as well. International Living is your best resource to learn about Panama - they have a lot of great free information (and also sell books and organize seminars about the best countries to move to). www.internationalliving.com |

Panama is a very good place to move because of the weather and the democratic government.
Answering your questions:
cost of living: To live very well, i think that you can handle for you and your husband with $3500.00 per month and this answers fits in the second one that is crime. There are good and bad places to live like everywhere in the world, but i confirm you that Panama is very secure and with that monthly amount, you wont have any problem.
Health: There are very good hospitals here and very good insurance plans to get attended with very good Doctors here.
Best place for Americans: It depends where you want to live, if you like the city, then it will be El Cangrejo, if you like the beach, there a lot of Coronado or the ones in the other places like Rompio. If you like the mountains, cold places, I recommend you Boquete, Volcan, El Valle or Cerro Azul.

Hope this helps
Enjoy your trip!! |
