Yes you can survive on $800 a month in Costa Rica. You can live modestly but not luxuriously with that. Remember to look in the Spanish newspapers for a place to stay, and shop at Spanish places for locals. English places have the prices higher for tourists

Hello !!!! YES!! I am from Costa RIca, but I work in New York, and YES YES YES you can live with 800 USD per month, not rich but rent a ok appartment, and have fun!!! and eat plenty!! don't worry about vegetarian diet! vegatables ARE CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!
Also check with the Embassy, as long as I know INDIA is not aLLOWED into the country, meaning we have countries to which we do not issue VISAS!!! so just check it out, since it was some people told me in the Embassy before, maybe it has changed... but well... CHECK IT OUT!!!

The folks at this site will provide you with a lot of information. Have them call you and ask them to mail it to you.

They also have wonderful beach front land at unbelievable prices. You don't need to buy anything, just let them provide you with details.

Hope this helps.

You can live very well with $800 a month specially if your single, Costa Ric is also a paradise for vegetarians since they are fresh and very cheap, a large variety and easily found.
A vegetarian meal cooked by yourself would cost pennies.
Learning spanish is helpfull, even though many speak and understand basic english.

$350 for a two room little apartment in San Jose
$35 water and electric services
$50 cell phone
$250 food (prepared by you)
$50 transportation (bus.. some cabs)

find a roomate, $800 covers just the basics

You don't need $800.00 to "survive" in Costa Rica.

On $600.00 USD a month you can live like a King!

Especially if you live around Quepos on the Pacific Side of CR where you can reant a nice apartment from $250.00 - $300.00 per month.

Good Luck!

and VIVA LA PURA VIDA!
