Can someone explain the "vibes" I have been getting from this Hispanic girl I have been dating? |
I guess you can say I've been "dating" this girl from Uruguay (but we live in America) for a couple weeks. We have gone out about 4-5 times. I like really like her, but hey, it's only been 2 weeks.
Even the first time we went out she is very "clingy" and "touchy". Whenever we are walking anywhere she either goes to hold my hand or wraps her whole arm around my arm as if we were walking down a wedding aisle or something. She did the same thing when we went to a movie and to a basketball game as we are sitting there. She will hold my arm, etc.
For the record I am white. So I told a couple of my friends about what she does (the girl who is my friend is white, the guy is half black, half white) and they both said it's not so much that this girl REALLY likes me, it's more of the culture of where she is from that it is normal for a girl to do that with a guy she is out with, no matter how much she might like him.
Can anyone help me out here??? |

I think half of it has to do with her culture and the other half is just that she is plain clingy.
I lived in Chile for nine months and I met all kinds of people. Everyone was always warmer than us Americans may be, but still I knew a lot of girls who were not that clingy. They still found it embarrassing to touch and hold on to a guy that much in public and after so little time, even if they really liked him.
I found it interesting how it seemed that if they were just "really good friends" that a girl would be more clingy and physically affectionate to the guy without shame.
It's hard to say because as much as everyone would like to believe, Latin people don't follow this one code. Each person is different. There are really outgoing people and then really reserved people.
Really affectionate people and really distant people. You never know.
I have a feeling it's a mixture of her culture and her personality.

I'd say your friends are right.. Hispanic people (me) are taught or raised that way.. Its like a way to let everyone know your taken and you are pleased with how the relationship is going...
But....
There could also be another reason.. If she doesnt have any papers (is not a civilian or resident) and starts to talk about marriage too soon, it could be a sign that she may be trying to get papers... But most people arent like that so I probably wouldnt worry about that... |

I agree with "Roxy", it is very common for us (I'm from Uruguay) to go around either holding hand or just like you described if the person's your boyfriend, however it is not like we hold eachother all day, there are people that are just too clingy.

It could mean a lot of things. She's in secure, she may want to convey the message that you are hers and keep al others away from you. Depending on what part of Uruguy,not all young ladies are suppose to act like that. But Like a lot of other girls being away from family, they act different. Maybe she really likes you . |
