Hi!
Well... you won't find anyone that will sell you petroleum just like that, but if you pass near a platform or well and ask for a bottle they'll probably give you a bit. Venezuelan's are very nice people.
Now, the place you ought to go for all gold and diamonds (more gold than diamonds) is the southern states: Bolivar and Amazonas. At Bolivar's main cities: Ciudad Guayana (Pto. Ordaz) and Ciudad BolĂvar you will find gold very cheap. And if you travel inside the sabana (jungle) as if you were going to the national parks you'll find even more.
Diamonds... I haven't heard much about. But gold nuggets, yes! That's the perfect place to buy.
At Bolivar State there are beautiful landmarks, but you have to travel into the sabana to see them. You have to get there by car, or take an airplane tour and stay in camps. You'll find:
- The Salto Angel: the greatest water fall in the world.
- The Tepuyes: one of the oldest land formations in the world. They have been stading since prehistoric times.
For Oil, around the Orinoco river (which you'll inevitably pass on your way to the Bolivar State) there are platforms and wells. Also at the Zulia State (which is the opposite extrema of the country (north West) you'll find plenty of oil.
Venezuela has great land monuments but there are way too many! This are the ones that attract tourist the most, and that are near what you want to find.
Here's a map for you: http://www.southwindadventures.com/map-ven.htm
Is a very general map of Venezuela.
You'll see Zulia in the North West extreme, and Bolivar and Amazonas with a darker green shade in the South East (if you look closer you'll see the markings of the Angel Falls -Salto Angel, and Tepuyes at the Gran Sabana National Park).
It's hard, if not impossible, to find detailed road maps of Venezuela online. But thta should work for what you want.
Goodluck! |

Ok. They won't sell petroleum to you, I can asure you that. But you can find gold and maybe diamonds in Amazonas state or Bolivar state most likely. In Bolivar and Zulia are the petroleum sources, if you want petroleum you can go there. The company that manages petroleum in Venezuela is called PDVSA (Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A.), and it's a national company, Chavez handles it. So it is not that simple, petroleum is the principal source of economy of the country. I hope I helped. |

I rode my bike through the mining communities where they mine and sell gold before entering "La Gran Sabana" - The towns were El Callao, El Dorado, Km 88 and the whole road between them. You can spot it as halfway between Ciudad Guayana and Santa Elena de Uairen. |
