Do both. Just plan in advance. If you plan in advance you could probably get flights to Cuzco for pretty cheap on Lan.com. and PeruRail passes to M.P.
Lima is great. If you go to LIma you should definitely check out the Museo Larco, and its unique collection of ancient erotic pottery. It's really cool.
The thing is, if you are already in Peru, you might as well see Machu Picchu. I had the same issue and my BF loved it in the end. The train ride and hike is worth it.
Just let him complain. He'll thank you later. |

Start showing him brochures or cool sites featuring Machu Picchu. Remind him that it was voted as one of the New 7 Wonders and if he misses seeing it now he'll regret it later. If he likes history or culture at all, he'd definitely be missing out on something big. All of these reminders need to be subtle, but I'm sure you know how to handle that.
If it's an issue with money, start saving up now. Also -- if you want to go to Machu Picchu and he is so against it, what's stopping you from going on your own and leaving him to sit in a hotel in Lima? Just something to think about, although I hope you can go together. :) |
