The best way is to buy a cell phone and use it with a calling card. You can even use your US cell phone if is compatible with Guatemala network. I was there last year and I just purchase a phone for like $10 and i input a calling from company like TIGO and i was good. The calling card is very cheap. They have many promotions, on certain days they give double minutes when you buy minutes on the particular day.

You can always get Yahoo's Phone out and In. It uses your computer as a phone. If you subscribe to Phone In, you get a number and I think its 9.99 a month and if you call him, it costs .14 cents a minute. Calling cards cost more then that in Guatemala.

Cell phone is currently the cheapest way to call the states from Guatemala. There are several companies available, so he may need to compare between them, but Cell is the your best bet. And it is cheaper to Guate to US then to call from US to Guate.

Just dial 001 before the number on your regular phone using your regular long distance company. It's cheaper.

cheapest way is with a cellphone. Depends on what plan or service you use though.

I think Claro is the cheapest, but doesn't always have service or something... I spend less than 10centsUS a minute with Movistar.

My cell phone in Guatemala costs about 10 cents (US) per minute to call the US. When I was in the US, I was never able to find a comparable price to call Guatemala.
