Chile or Costa Rica? |
Ahh....Can't decide. I want to hear what you have to say about these countries, and/or which would be better to spend six months in for foreign exchange. |

6 months.. lucky you.. Chile for sure.. Far bigger country, and there is a lot to see in 6 months. You could 'do' Costa Rica is a month or so since it is a smaller country. Chile would occupy at least 2 to 3 times as long, and the extremes are amazing. Start of in Chilean Patagonia with the fiords and Torres del Paine, South America's finest Park. Work your way north, with possible side trips into Argentinian patagonia (Moreno glacier and Bariloche.. too many nice places).
Wine country in Santiago, and head further north into the worlds driest desert the Atacama. You're in the tropics at this point, and the Bolivian Altiplano beckons Machu Pichu in Peru is closeby as well. So you've travelled from the lowest spot in the world outside of Antartica all the way to the tropics, and you're still in the same country! Where else in the world can you do that?
And I even forgot to mention Easter Island.
If you are limted to the main city for much of your stay, my choice would still be Chile. Santiago, albeit a bit smoggy is still far more interesting/cosmopolitan than San Jose.
I've been to both countries, and enjoyed them both, but for the amount of time you have, Chile is the obvious answer.
Good luck |

Both are really good places and really different, I totally love Costa Rica and Chile have amazing places and its really big, but if you gonna stay for 6 months I recommend you to go to Chile cause you can visit Argentina, Brazil, and other places of south america. Costa Rica its near and really small so you can go there one or 2 weeks and its enough time. |

se habla espanol en costa rica y chile. so por supuest creo that you should be quite fluent in it. also, consider the climates, and distance from home; culture, governments, and univerities. be careful. do lots of research, but im sure you will learn a lot and have fun in which ever you choose. |

I have spent two weeks in Costa Rica and can honestly say that it is the most beautiful place i have ever been to. Beautiful beaches, nicest people in the world and to be honest everywhere there is nice and pretty clean. I can't say for Chile but i have also been to Australia and Hawaii and Costa Rica knocks both of them out of the water! If you do go to CR i recommend going to the cloud forrest and seeing the volcanos! |
