safe: yes, exept Choco and the south of the country with exeption of the Amazon
ideas: rock, punk groups and even skin heads (neonazis) who thinks that the colombian race is superior-----search in facebook or what ever colombia neonazis, and then you'll believe me.
there're Holligans of soccer from teams like Millonarios or Santa fe similar to the argentinan ones
some are comunist and others are facist like MR Uribe Fans
and in the poor areas are ganstas of hip hop and that things even in Cali and Medellin.
the people like: multiracial( from ****** in the coast and mulatos, to meztizos and pure white people with blue eyes like in the Us or europe in Bogota and Medellin, to indians in some parts and japanese descents and jewish and more).
good people, very polite, very bohemian, very happy and colombians like the party and the beer a lot.
Good things: singers, artist and film makers like SHAKIRA, JUANES, CABAS, SIMON BRAND---UNKNOWN,GABRIEL GARCIA MARQUEZ...
nature, cities, technology, arquitecture...
events
beutiful women and men in the world
Bad things: the fu..kin..g guerrillas
the bad reputation
that some people confunds Colombia with Bolivia and Mexico, not right
trafic jams
soccer Holligans
homeless in some parts

i went to colombia last year. it was so amazing! i loved it! i have heard soooo many bad things about it but it wasn't at all. it really depends where you go. if you go to a more popular city like bogota you wont have many problems. i had a great experience!! hope i helped!

i live in colombia and seriously, in the big cities it's really safe. The people are so nice here, and yes, people are soccer obsessed (in a good way) and like to party. They are also really welcoming and hospitile. I go to an american school that has american and canadian teachers, and one of my sister's teachers, who is from the U.S., found it strange that people in the city i live especially (barranquilla) dress up for everything, like, she said that where she used to live people went to the supermarket on a sunday night in sweatpants, but here they go in good clothes. The food is reallyyyyyyyyyy good. But most "typical" foods on the coast are fried, so you have to watch your weight. Otherwise, there are really great restaurants.
we have a so-so reputation, but it's not how people think it is in colombia. yes, there's the guerrila, but that's just in the jungle areas. and some homeless people which is really sad, but anyone who comes will love it!
