Hi there!

My husband and I are retired in Panama. We have our pension deposited in our US bank and then use the atm for cash. We receive $1500/month. We built a house in Altos del Maria, paid cash for it and for our car, from what we sold in the states. Our builder allowed us to give him US checks as he built so we didn't have to try and get large amounts from the ATM.

We have a live-in maid(she does the cooking as well)She works 5.5 days per week and we pay her $120/month. We also pay $43/month to social security for her part and ours. It is not required that you pay their part but we found it easier.

We have a gardner but only 1 day per week. He gets $8/day so $32/month. He is more like contract labor since he comes 1x a week and not on a set day, so he does not get social security. We found that we really didn't need a gardner more than 1x/week for cutting grass and raking etc.

So, that is right at $200/month for employees.

We pay $9/month for water

$20/month for maintenance (includes garbage)

$80/month for electricity (we live at an altitude where the temp. is an average of 75 so we have no a/c) Electicity is expensive if you run a/c.

$20/month propane (used for water and cooking)

$120/month internet (you can get it for $40 at slower speeds, we have the fastest available)

$75/month Direct TV (again we have all the channels, you can get basic for less)

$60/month car insurance

$75/month health ins. for the 2 of us

$25/month to mailbox etc. for deliveries from the states.

$32/month for a life Ins. plan in the states.
