We never had Mayans in Costa Rica... In Fact Costa Rica is not like the rest of the centroamerican countries in which their population is mainly indigenous. Costa Ricans citizens are mostly European descendents. |

Costa Rica was the site of many indigenous cultures, but only eight remain today: Bribri, Brunka, Cabecar, Chorotega, Guaymi, Huetar, Maleku and Terraba, also called Teribe or Naso.
I dont know why most Costa Ricans like to hide there Indian influence. I am Costa Rican and I know for a fact that yeah there is a lot of european influence but most of us do have a touch and mix of indian and that should be something to be proud of, to have real american native blood. Before the spanish came here there was nothing but indians here and they were Pre-Columbians. But the spanish made them slaves, killed them and sold them out to different countries. The spanish used to sell the indians and ship them to different countries in south and central america so they got really mixed. I dont thinks they were Mayan but they were different type of indians. Thats why it was given the name the Rich Coast, because the indians here were wearing gold, they used to make golden jelewry and when the spanish saw the gold on the indians they called it Costa Rica, the Rich Coast and then of course stoled it. The indians in Costa Rica migrated from Alaska thousands and thousands of years ago. |

The short answer is no. The Chorotega Indians of Costa Rica Nicaragua, Honduras had pottery and other artifacts that show a Maya influence and they were once believed to be descendents of Mayas. This idea has been discredited however. |

Mayans never lived in Costa Rica........you need to go to Guatemala and the Yucatan peninsula to find their roots.... |

Mayans were indians from part of Mexico, in Costa Rica there were very few Indians from mainly Chorotega, Boruca and Huetar tribes, there wer also a few others, but the indian population is a small percentage of the country.
So the effect was probably minimal in Costarrican society.
