gallo pinto con natilla, plĂ tanos fritos, tamales, empanadas, olla de carne, sopa de frijoles, arroz con pollo, ceviche, arroz con leche, cajetas...
Animales: venados, puma, tapir, chancho de monte, tigrillos, monos titĂ­, monos carablanca, monos congo...

Mono (monkey), pisote(native animal in raccoon family) , tucan, lapas(macaw), sopolote(buzzard), boa,

Lizano(veg salsa), trenza(stuffed bread), borachos(cookies with liquor flavored jelly), chuleta(pork chop), yucca, pinto(black/red beans and rice national dish), banano,
mamon chino(small grape like fruit with spiky skin) , chicharron(pork skins), civiche(fish cooked by lime juice), picaritas(corn chips like fritos), pargo(red snapper)

farmers soup (can't remembe in spanish) but has beans with the brown water for the broth..hard boiled eggs, maybe some onion, and rice with tortilla on the side.

the tortillas can be HUGE (thick and large)

queque tres leches....three layer cake.

victoria...the premium beer
imperial....the cheep beer
gin....is actually ginger ale.....popular down there.
chayote (squash)
aguacate (avocado)
everything down there has rice (arroz) as part of the dish
tamal (tamales) for christmas have chicken and veggies in them

IMHO, costa ricans do not like veggies all that much tho

some of these names might be el salvadoran.....just get them mixed up.

as for the animals

mono blanco (white howler monkeys
lara (maccaw) the scarlet maccaws are famous in costa rica
mariposas (butterflies are everywhere)
tucanes (tucans)
amigo de hombre (a yellow brested bird about the size of a finch)
quetzal.....elusive but beautiful
tortugas....the razor back kind, and thre green kind.
alacranes, arañas, cucarachas (grandes) y chicotes are there
....scorpions, spiders cochroaches and something called a chicote that likes to eat the corn crop up.
