Costa Rica?? Is It Worth It? |
there is going to be an educational trip next year to costa rica for 3 days. my teacher said it will be fun and also educational. it will also allow the students to earn an academic credit for science. the cost is 2800 and will include everything - hotel, food, round trip plane ticket and everything else you need i guess.im wondering if it's worth it. my mom said i can go if i get a summer job and help her out with the money. i want to go but im not sure it's worth it. it's only 3 days. by the way im a freshman and will be 15 when we go on the trip. |

2800 for 3 days is definitely very pricey. There are a lot of travel agencies listed in the TicosLand website. You and your mom should go to the website, get the travel agency phone numbers, and call 3 or 4 different ones so that you can familiarize yourself with the prices for tours, etc.
I can tell you this: For that kind of money, you can stay two weeks at a five star resort like Hotel Barcelo Langosta Beach or Tambor Beach, and that's everything included. You don't have to leave the resort and you will enjoy great food, activities, the beach, the swimming pools and everything else. Hey! Bring your mom, you can probably get cheap air tickets and both come down for a week at a five star resort.
Check into the prices and you will see that you can do better for your money. |

$2800 for three days is too much. Costa Rica is beautiful but you can't enjoy all it has to offer in just 3 days, but I guess if you really want or need the credit I think you should go. |

$2800 for only 3 days? Hmmm, I dont know thats kind of pricey. Plus you have to take into account where you are staying. More than likely you are going to be staying in San Jose, the capital. With that said, prepare to be either robbed or have something stolen from you. My spanish class just came back from San Jose 2 months ago. 15 people went and 9 of them were robbed in San Jose. As crazy as it sounds, I actually live here now. 2800 bucks is a hell of a lot of money. I personally do not think its worth it. 3 days is not enough time to practice and hone your spanish, and 3 days is way to short of time to see all of the amazing things Costa Rica has. My two cents, "Spend your $2800 on something else." |

For that money I can get you one month in CR.No,is not worth it.Educational...CR doesn't have many cultural sites,go Peru,Bolivia..even Mexico have more unique culture than CR.Fun..sure,lots of fun here and that is just like everywhere...NOT WORTH THAT MUCH MONEY!!!Do a volunteer program better, will cost about the same if not less, still the credit and you will get to stay 1-2 months and really get to know the country |

I love Costa Rica and I encourage all to go. But $2800 will get me 2 weeks in CR staying at really great places and eating really great food and entrance to all the museums with a couple of fun excursion to boot. If you are only seeing San Jose, it's really not worth it. San Jose is a big city and has some cool things, but it's the volcanoes and rainforest and wildlife that make CR a great place to be.
Wait until you are in college and then do the spring break backpacking thing. I did 5 days in Costa Rica about 4 years ago and it cost me around $700 (I got an unbelievable deal on airfare, used public buses and we stayed in hostels). 3 days shouldn't cost you half of what they are charging. |

$2800 seem very high for just 3 days, but I do not know where you are traveling from (Europe, Asia etc). And I seriously doubt it will include everything (e.g personal spending)
No doubt it will be fun and educational, but 3 days is nowhere enough time to see what Costa Rica has to offer, a 8-10 day trip is more like it. And some people, just never end up leaving :-)
If you plan well, and coming from the US, you can spend anywhere from 1500-$2200 for a great 7-10day trip. This is staying in nice hotels, eating at good places, taxi, fishing, zip-linning, ecotours and more.
Save your money, wait until you have the time to really enjoy yourself and the people in Costa Rica - it will be well worth it.
Don/t go for the appetizer, but go for the 10 course meal

That's a lot of money for just three days. If the three days includes arrival day and departure day, it way too high.
If not, it's way too short.
I'd love to return to CR again. Had a great time there.
Pura Vida!

I would say Costa Rica is the number one destination in latin america, you will definitely enjoy it however 3 days is not enouph time at all, you need more like one or two weeks at least which will cost you about the same price.
