Costa Rica Questions?

I'm going on a two week trip to costa rica and i'm a little nervous. I'm leaving in tomorrow and i really don't know allt hat much about where I'm going. I know i will be visiting Saripiqui, Monteverde, and San Carlos. I'm a picky eater as it is, i also should mention i am not very fluent in spanish. and i was just wondering if anyone knew what the main foods are there, as well as some spanish names for foods i should stere clear of. Also, I'm deathly allergic to shellfish. So i was wondering how to ask is there shellfish in this dish, as well as if they will understand that i meant lobster, shrimp, clams, etc. Lastly, we will be doing some hiking and i was wondering for watery areas if my crocks would be alright to wear or if it is worth it to buy a new pair of tevas. thanks!

The first answer is very good!

Tico Roots.
OK i don't know the answer to all your questions but in Monte Verde there are a good bunch of different types of restaurants with different types of food and a lot of people there speak English and the menus are translated so you'll be fine.
here are some translations for you.
fish=pescado
lobster=langosta
clams= Almeja
shellfish=Marisco
i am dangerously allergic=soy peligrosamente alergica(its pronounced alerhica)

they eat a lot of mariscos here by the beaches but also lots of different types of food like chicken, steak, pork, rice and beans, macaroni and a lot of fruits and vegetables, salads, you'll be fine with a lot of different food to choose from and the places your going to are really nice and people there speak 80% English if not 100% so youll be fine just relax and make sure when you go hiking make sure you always have bug spray with you because some parts can be hot and humid like by some beaches or lower parts of the mountains so just make sure you have bug spray and youll be fine, your going to have alot of fun. enjoy take care.

I wouldn't wear your crocs. They get super slipery on wet surfaces.
