Costa Rica - quepos, and manuel antonio?

I am visting costa rica in January, and wondering where to stay. I heard that quepos is a good place to stay. What I am looking for is an area to do a lot of things (ie. scuba, party, and fish). I am in my mid twenties and going with a friend. We would like to go somewhere where there will be girls our age, but also want things to do also. Does anyone know if this is a good area, perhaps and better place? Hopefully you know of a hotel that fits us best? Thanks

Try the hostel called Widemouth Frog in Quepos.Should find a lot of people your age there. There is a dorm as well as rooms. They rent snorkleing gear and surfboards.Nice pool and patio, clean kitchen,TV,etc Price is around $10 US in the dorm. I think you'll like it! They also have their own website you can check out for more info.

Its very beautiful, and there seemed to be a decent night life although its not a very big town. I don't know about scuba or fishing, I mainly swam and checked out the nature.

As for transportation, I might go for the bus. It's really cheap, and you don't have to deal with the lunatic drivers or narrow rather dangerous roads. Just make sure you buy the directo, as soon in advance as you can, because the ordinary bus is slow and an old bomb.

Don't rent a car at the airport - they charge an extra 25% tax. if you do rent a car make arrangements ahead of time and the car agency will take you to their off site rental facility so you wont have to pay the extra tax

First of all, my advice when travelling to a new place is always to rent a car. Find a good deal online. You can pick up the car at the airport (within the terminal - right outside, very convenient). You always see a lot more when you can go where you want, when you want.
Secondly, head out of the city (San Jose) ASAP. I recommend el Parque Manuel Antonio. You will get there in a few hours and it is a beautiful drive. There is a great place to stay there called Costa Verde. There are wild monkeys in the trees outside your balcony, which also overlooks the ocean. I should note that the resort is not on the beach, it is a ways away, but that is where all the hotels are, from my recollection.
You can check it out here:

When I went (10 years ago) it was a great value for the price. I don't know if the price has gone up, but the rooms are huge, very nice, and it is a very nice place.

Quepos and Manuel Antonio is OK, is a comun place to go, but the best is Peninsula de Nicoya: Montezuma, Malpais, Santa Tereza, Manzanillo,Tambor. You can fly and rent a car there, stay at any place you like and enjoy all this places, see information in internet.
