There are quite a few hotels on the Caribbean Coast, especially around Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. Cahuita National Park has a beautiful beach and there are snorkeling opportunities there. If you want general information about Costa Rica, you can try the National Tourism website. We also have many hotels listed in the TicosLand.com website. Just click on the English language link when you are on the home page, and you will find that everything is categorized.

I like the pacific coast it's only a 2.5 hour drive from San Jose or a 30 min flight . The town of Manuel Antonio has some very nice hotels ..check the internet for Hotel La Mansion oe Si Como No or Costa Verde the all have great views of the ocean and are close to the beach ...there is a zip line that will take u through the jungle ..The park there is something to see..i am leaving again in Oct. I always have a good time

Well to help you narrow your search results the region of Costa Rica you're interested in, the eastern coast, is called Limon. This is definitely one of the more unspoiled areas of Costa Rica, which is hard to find these days.
If you're outdoorsy, I strongly recommend you visit Tortuguero National Park. It is a stunningly beautiful and very well conserved wetland just inland from the Carribean coast. This entire region is rich in natural beauty, the coast being a key area for turtle nesting. Be warned though, January is the start of the summer season in Costa Rica so be prepared for some very humid heat.

Jaco, in my opinion, is the best place to stay, at least for a few days. From there you can go off on your own excursion every day since it's centrally located. Jaco also offers a lot of nice amenities and night life. Great beach too.

I also recommend the Pacific side and I also recommend Manual Antonio. I stayed at Costa Verde in June and it was one of my best hotel experiences ever. It isn't 5 star or anything but it has such a wonderful relaxing effect on me. I loved the huge balconies and the rocking chairs. I could have spent the whole vacation on that balcony. The hotel is on the edge of the National Park and they had lots of hiking trails right on property. We got an open air room with an ocean view and it was fantastic! I cried when we had to check out (yes, I know thats lame - but I really really loved this room). Wildlife would come right out of the jungle - it was amazing. While we were there we also went White water rafting, zip lining, rappelling and lots of hiking. The public beach access is a short walk from the hotel but the beach at the National Park was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. There are a few options were you can get information on hotels. The Camara Nacional de Hoteles, organization which has the list of all the registered hotels in the country ( www.costaricanhotels.com) has a detailed list of prices and regions so you can check it out.
That at least will give you an idea of the hotels there and the cost depending on the stars.
As far as tours, most offer snorkeling, which is fairly popular on that coast. If you want a jungle experience I would recommend Almonds and Corals. Is a luxury hotel in the middle of the jungle, which offers a unique opportunity, a mix between 5 star hotel and jungle resort.
As far as places you should check Cahuita and Puerto Vargas National Park, Tortuguero National Park, canopy for sure and maybe a dolphin watch.

5 nights is not much so you will have to visit one section of the country and do everything nearby, Tortuguero is very nice as well as Cahuita or Puerto Viejo of Limon.
Snorkeling is great on the both coasts.
