Costa Rica with a baby..... |
After getting some wonderful advice on here I have decided that the 2 places I would most like to visit are either Manual Anatonio or the Osa Peninsula which sounds amazing. Problem is I will be taking my 11 month old and I'm not sure the Osa Peninsula will be suitable.....bear in mind the ease of getting there too. Where is best? Additional Details Now I'm worried about the baby and malaria/dengue fever.... |

I agree with the previous answer. A nice hotel in Manuel Antonio is the way to go. You will have all of the comforts and amenities there. I guarantee you will love Manuel Antonio national park. Once your baby is a bit older and can handle something bit rougher and more rustic, then try the Osa Peninsula. Take care and stay safe. Oh! I Costa Rica, watch out for the rip tides and under tow. You would be amazed the force that these have, even if you are only in waist deep water. But listen to the locals, talk to the hotel staff and ask for advice and you and your baby will be well.
I hope you have a wonderful trip. For more information about Costa Rica, don't hesitate to visit the TicosLand web directory. We have lots of information listed in very convenient categories. |

Honey if you stay in a Nice hotel you should be fine traveling with your Baby.My family has done it numerous times to Manuel antonio and its be just fine
It probably would be good to rent your own car. I believe that car rental agencies sometimes rent car seats. Ask at the hotel where you'll be staying if they know which agencies rent seats, or look at the agency websies. Your hotel will tell you which agencies they recommend, and often can get the car dilivered to the hotel for you.
Strollers will be hard to use unless you are in an area with sidewalks. Maybe you will be. Again, write to the hotel. The good thing about strollers is that they have canopies for shade. Bring a baby hat or two. it will be very hot near Liberia, especially in the mornings. Since this is the rainy season, it will probably cloud up around noon and rain sometime between 2 and 4. So bting umbrellas!
In the rainforest, a baby backpack will be essetial, because it is hard to use strollers on the trails.
A nice gentle river tour near Arenal is the Safai float. And near Liberia is the Safari Corobici.
One nice way to experience tha rainforest and the volcano at once is to go to Arenal Hanging Bridges. Well-kept trails through beautiful rainforest with a stuning view of the volcano. Try to go early in the day.
Have a wondeful time...Costa rica is just lovely even if traveling with Baby in hand |

Malaria is only located in the Limon area and up around the Nicoragian border. Dengue fever is a little more common, but still not a major problem. Be sure to wear sunscreen & bugspray and you'll be fine. Don't cover the baby in a sunscreen that has scent (my friend got ate up with mosquitos even with bug spray on top - and the rest of us didn't get a single bite). During the day I didn't find any mosquitos and at night the large bat population keeps them well under control. Just use a little Avon skin-so-soft bugspray w/sunscreen (no Deet for the baby) and you can be worry free. |
