Costa Rica - would I be eligible for residency?

I am researching the option of moving to Costa Rica. Is it true that giving birth to a child there is a pathway to residency for the child's parents? I've read some conflicting information on the internet. If anyone knows or has personal experience, I would really appreciate it!

Your child would have residency, but you wouldn´t. However, it does become easier for you to obtain residency because of the ties that you would have to the country. By the way, think of starting a business, it is much easier to obtain your residency that way.

No, your child would but you wouldn't. What you read isn't true, if it where Costa Rica would be facing even more illegal immigration from Nicaragua, Colombia, Peru etc, and this would be a major problem.

Your child would have residency, but you, maybe not. Yahoo Answers is NOT the place to get definitive information on this. Residency laws in Costa Rica are constantly in flux and even answers from attorneys may change from attorney to attorney. Your best bet is to contact your nearest Costa Rican consulate -

You won´t get residency but its easier to apply if your son is born here. You will have to qualify for this, I'm adding a link from the immigration department here about permanent residency if you have someone in your family such as husband or child born here.

Its a PDF in Spanish, try to get a translator, although, if you want to apply for a residency and you don´t even speak Spanish you are heading for the wrong start.

I think that not. There are a lot of inmigrants from Nicaragua and the birth of a child is not a pathway to residency.

I know only the case that a child that was born in CR (parents are from a other country) become the CR citizenship, when the parents asked for that.
