foothills of the Sierra Nevada, eastern plains (Orinoquia)

- Malaria prophylaxis. Malaria risk - P. vivax (58%), P.
falciparum (42%) - is high throughout the year in
rural/jungle areas below 800 m. Transmission occurs in
municipalities of the regions Uraba-Bajo Cauca, Orinoquia,
Pacifico and Amazonia. Transmission intensity varies from
department to department, with the highest risk in Amazonas,
Choco, Cordoba, Guainia, Guaviare, Putumayo and Vichada.
Chloroquine-resistant P.falciparum exists in Uraba-Bajo
Cauca, Pacifico and Amazonia. Resistance to
sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine reported.
