Yes. When you travel around the country, you will see "white" people around. Most are European, but you will come across many Americans also. As for work, it is very tough, almost impossible, to find a good paying job (by american standards). Granted you need a lot less money to live there, you aren't going to get rich by living in a cheaper region and finding a good paying job. As someone else said, you are better off making your cash in the U.S., then visiting there or retiring there. Your best bet is to get into the tourism industry. Guatemala has yet to tap into this industry like Costa Rica has and in my opinion it has more potential than other countries in the region. |

YES THERE IS ALOT OF AMERICANS LIVING IN GUATEMALA, YOU WILL FIND MANY EUROPEANS ALSO MORE THAN 50% OF THE POPULATION IS MIXED WITH EUROPEAN FROM GERMANY, ITALY, SPAIN, ALSO MIDDLE EASTERN FROM PALESTINE, ISRAEL, ETC, SO I WOULD RECOMMEND IT. PLUS GUATEMALA IS THE COUNTRY WITH BETTER ECONOMIC LIFE COMPARED TO THE OTHER CENTRAL AMERICAN COUNTRIES! |

The are those who move to various Central American nations, although Guatemala is a little off the beaten path. Check expat sites such as escapeartist.com or internationalliving.com. Both have articles for Guatemala, although EscapeArtist is free and IL is primarily a subscription site. As fas as working, Guatemala is a very poor nation, and even if your skills are in demand, it is unlikely you would make enough to satisfy your needs. You're much better off working Stateside, saving your $, and spending it Guatemala, where the cost of living is very cheap. |

Actually, there are plenty of immigrants in Guatemala. I would not suggest Guatemala city unless you have money. If you go to Antigua you will find plenty of people from the U.S., UK, Australia, etc. However, this is a very touristy town and you won't really get a feel for the culture there. |
