You normally do as a non-resident foreigner. But ultimately that all depends on your citizenship.
Ask your embassy in Costa Rica or try the Costa Rican Directorate of Im(M)igration (Migración).

Yes, you do need a return ticket.
They my ask you to show it when you leave YOUR country, or they may ask to see it in Costa Rica at migration when you enter.

well, you do need the US passport, to get in, and also, how are you going to get in, by air,or driving. i think by air, right. so just get your passport ready. |

actually you probably do NOT need a visa; if you're a US Citizen you do NOT net a visa; but if you're traveling by air to Costa Rica you do need the return ticket. |

Jason, yes you need a ticket out to get into Costa Rica, if not you may be not allowed to board the plane in your country unless you buy the return ticket or a ticket out of Costa Rica like San José Managua, or San José Panamá,...... Hope this may help you, and enjoy your visit to my country. |
