Do United States permanent residents need visas to Panama?

The correct answer is that it depends totally on your nationality, not the fact that you are a permanent resident in the U.S. Only Mexico and Canada allow U.S. permanent residents to enter without a visa no matter what their nationality is. To see if you need a visa, you can use the site below. Just enter your nationality and enter that you are an alien resident of the U.S.A. Then enter Panama as your destination and click for the info.

You have 2 options:

1. Go to a Panamanian Consulate and request a tourist visa.
2. Hop on a flight to Panama and purchase a tourist card on the airplane or upon your arrival to the airport in Panama City.

Both apply for US Citizens. You are allowed to stay in Panama up to 90 days according to the most recent legislation that went into effect a couple of weeks ago.

You can't stay more than 90 days on a tourist visa. If you do you may be barred from entering Panama for 2 years. If this happens you could appeal the decision, but you will have to retain an attorney in Panama City to handle your case.

Be careful as there is a brand new immigration legislation in effect for the Republic of Panama. Sources say it was modeled very close to US Immigration Legislation, so there should be very little latitude to play with. If you need help contact an attorney to guide and advise you.
