Do I need to speak english to live & work in the UK?

This is what the rest of the world thinks.....

If you speak three languages, you're trilingual,

If you speak two languages, you're bilingual,

If you only speak one language, you're American.

Go ahead and learn to speak Spanish, you'll really learn more than just a language.

Of course, it is Latin America. People in Latin America speak english but you would be more accepted if you speak spanish. It is like I would like to live in US without speaking english and wanting you guys to learn spanish.

wildraft1
It's what you might call "a good idea". Try it out!

You won't be able to work in Panama City, Panama unless you are a citizen of Panama or have a minimum of $10,000.00 to start your own business, of which you may be required to put in a bank account as a 'business guarantee.' The money is yours, but you may or may not be able to use it for business purposes.

Note, it can be very difficult to start a business in Panama or Costa Rica, so be prepared and go carefully. Make sure you do your homework EXTREMELY well or be prepared to loose a lot.

You will also need to find a way to stay in Panama long-term. This may not be as easy as you think unless you're retired and have a guaranteed income.

Good luck!

You could get by with english a lot of the time but the language is spanish and many times english will not work. Make sure you get the right visa that will allow you to work. Wages are probably much lower than what you are used to in your country. For more information on Panama and Panama Visa go here:

Florida? No.

Panama? You could get by, but you'll struggle. You'll pick it up quickly though.

Well most definitely you will need to speak Spanish to live and work in Panama City, Panama. Although it's safe to say that 55% of the country speaks English, you still need Spanish to get by on those moments when just speaking English and sign language won't do.

As other users have pointed out, you will also need to arrange your immigration status in order to apply for a work permit, or to engage in business as an owner, or else you might find it difficult to find a job as the law defines it.

Panama is a land full of wonders, so give it a shot, you never know what might happen.

xxx
yes you do! most jobs in latin america require you to be able to communicate with whomever you will be working with.

Lynn
No, although it will be easier in some stores. A great site to check out before you go is www.retireinpanama.info they have pages of great info.

I completely understand you
