Do many Costa Rican people usually say "Discúlpeme" rather than "Perdón" when they wanna say "Excuse me? "?

Question 1) The same as the title question . I know Spaniards say ""Perdón".

Question 2) Do many Costa Rican people usually say "Con mucho gusto" rather than "De nada" when they wanna say "You're welcome/ That's all right" ? " Comapred to "De nada" , is the term "Con mucho gusto" is more popular among Costa Rican peple?

Question 3) Does San Jose' has a nickname called "Chepe" ? If yes, why ? if no, why not? Rumour says I may get a taxi fare discount if I say this to a Costa Rican driver? True or false?

Sorry for the word "Chepe" ( if the word offends you ) , I am really feeling interested to know about it

thanks

I plan to travel to Costa Rica . It would be nice if I know some Costa Rican Spanish

Gracias

1) Perdón is most used, Discúlpeme is very formal generally used in the upper class like royalty.
2) Personally, I believe they are both used about the same
3) Latin countries are well known for the nicknames from their specific given names. Francisco can be either "Paco" or "Pancho". Ignacio you can call "Nacho". José can be "Pepe", but in Costa Rica, he's "Chepe". (Sometimes even Josué will become Chepe.)

Costa Rica's capital is San José and cannot avoid this playful tico nomenclature. Costa Ricans outside of San José will often refer to San José as "Chepe", especially when they're making a trip to the city. (It seems that the farther you get from San José, the more often it's called "Chepe".)

You will encounter perdone much more than you will disculpeme. Disculpeme is usually used in more formal or more serious circumstances. Ditto for de nada. It is more informal and more widely used than Con mucho gusto. While Chepe is a widely used pet name, I doubt any Costa Rican taxista is going to give you a discount for using it.

Costa Rican Spanish is more formal than some others. Perdon and disculpeme are both used however. Costa Ricans use "de nada" when they are in a hurry and regard it is a little abrupt and rude. A bit like the difference between "thank you" and a "thanks" not followed by a "thanks for........"

Con mucho gusto is the way to go in Costa Rica, "de nada" is rarely uttered by a Tico. Chepe is just a nickname for Jose, like Nacho is for Ignacio and Kique is for Enrique.

I seriously doubt you would get a discount in a San Jose taxi for saying Chepe. San Jose taxis use meters (known as Marias). If they are not using a meter, the "discount" will still lead to your paying substantially more than a Tico would.

1 here in costa rica both are used, i find the costa rica spanish is much more formal than many other latin american countries. they usually don't use disculpeme it is usually disculpe, which is a shortened version. they also use usd. rather than tu'.

2 for sure everyone here says mucho gusto rather than de nada, i have been here for over 10 years and i think i have only heard de nada used 5 times. i noticed this because i learned de nada in spanish class and waited for people to say it.

3 chepe, i have never heard this term. i live about 2 hours from the city and never heard 1 person use this term. this doesn't mean that they don't use it, but for sure it is not a common word.
