No, Latinas means people from the Latin American region. In other words, it is called South American coutries. Latin Americans speak Spanish language.Latin is consider as a dead language today, in which that Latin language is not widely used in regular basis for people to communicate. However, Latin is often used in Scientific, specifically, in Biology terms when naming the Linnaeus classification naming system of the Kingdoms. Latin language was first spoken during the Roman civilization and i believe that it is still used in the Vatican city, Italy. |

Some people still talk latin in Latin America. Most of them are roman catholic priests. Until the 60s, (in Guatemala as a fact), in catholic schools, kids were taught latin as part of their formation. Now at days, latin is used by scientists, as it was mentioned before, and by lawyers.
To answer your question.... We dont really speak latin in Latin America. Most latin american countries speak spanish, Brazil speaks portuguese, and in the caribbean countries (including belize in central america, and guyana, french guyana and suriname in south america) speak english, dutch, french or creole (a mixture of caribbean and one or more main languages). |

We are latin-americans because all our languages (spanish, portuguese and french) derives from the ancient latin.
Beside all the spanish speaking countries, there are also, french speaking latin-american (as Haiti)
and portuguese speaking latins (as Brasilians).
That's why it is wrong to call all of us as 'spanish-americans'.
The term is meant to be 'unifying'.
But there is a problem: indians (ie: Mexico, Colombia and Peru) are excluded.
Some people call the countries in the Americas that are noy part of Latin America, Germanic America. In Germanic American countries most people speak Germanic languages: English, Dutch, and Danish. |

No Latin really isnt used any where. Spanish is spoken in almost every country in latin america, as well portugese in Brazil and some french, dutch and english in others. In large cities like everywhere else in the world there are groups of chinese speaking residents |
