I used to work at a University Health Center as a travel meds nurse. I can tell you that you WILL need some vaccinations. We had a software program that would tell all needed immunizations. You can go to the CDC website at www.cdc.com for information. It is a little tricky because vaccines are not required to enter the country, but highly recommended. So in reality you don't have to have anything, but it is not a good idea. The basics for going anywhere are Hepatitis A and B, current tetanus, MMR and sometimes antimalarial meds. Rarely some people would need yellow fever vaccine or meningitis. Check the CDC website. Have fun! |

I go there every month and do not get anything special. I just am careful about always drinking bottled water and cooked vegatables.
Lima, Machu Pichu, Iquitos (Amazon?) are all very touristy and safe.
Hepatitis C is always good when you are travelling in 3rd world but not really necessary. |

I have been to Peru two times. Good idea to get a hepatitis A vaccine traveling anywhere in Latin America. A malaria medication is recommended for the Amazon.. I have always stayed in the mountains, so I have never taken the malaria pills. Don't have to worry about malaria over 2500 meters. If I was going to take malaria medication ,I would go with malarone.If you take any medicines or get vaccines know how far in advance you have to take them before your trip. Have a great adventure. |

Everybody(even peruvians) needs Yellow Fever vaccine to go Amazon areas.
Maybe Hepatitis could help you too.

Not needed, actually. But if you insists, you can have an hepatitis and malaria shots since you are planning to go to the Amazon area. |

I went, 12 years ago, to Lima, Macchu Piccu and the Amazon. No injections were needed.

I needed vaccinations for Hep A and C and Yellow Fever, but I suppose that depends on where you are going. I did the Inka Trail, and was in Machu Picchu and Lima twice in the past two years and thankfully your vaccinations usually cover you for ten years (that is if you get them in Ireland)
Anyway, dont worry about it, just enjoy yourself over there. Im going back in November myself. Cant Wait!!!!!!!

When I went in 1999, I got the yellow fever, hepatitis A (I didn't have time for the B), typhus and a polio booster. I am not sure why I needed all these, but that is what I was told I needed. I guess typhus was going around at the time; I am not sure. |
