Well first correction Robinson Crusoe is a Fictional Account of The Ordeal of Alexander Selkirk upon The Juan Fernandez Island off The Chilean Coast in The South Atlantic Not as Defoe made out The South Pacific
when He was rescued he gave Recitals of His Ordeal one of which was probably attended by Defoe who was A Grubb St Journalist and Part Time Spy
being a bit of a Chancer Changed Selkirk`s Nationality to a Trueborn English Man Defoe who was English, was a Rabid Anti Scot Selkirk was a Scot born in Fife who may or may not have been a Pirate and thus an Unsuitable Hero

Robinson Crusoe Island is located around 600 Kilometers from Valparaiso Chile. The Island is part of the Chilean Archipielago formed by three Islands: Robinson Crusoe , Alejandro Selkirk and Santa Clara. The Island is really beautiful, The main Village San Juan Bautista (John The Baptist) is inhabited barely by 500 villagers.

This Island became national reserve around 1935. It is the location which inspired Daniel Defoe in the book Robinson Crusoe. Alexander Selkirk spent around four years in the island and once out of it he narrated his “tales” which later on inspired the book. The Chilean government officcialy named the Island Robinson Crusoe in 1966.

Hotel rates are not so expensive you can check out this web page for things to do in the island.

Más a Tierra on the Juan Fernandez Islands was renamed Robinson Crusoe Island after Alexander Selkirk who was castaway there for 4 years and 4 months surviving by killing local wildlife. There is now a monument to him on the island.

I don't think Thor Heyerdahl ever visited Robinson Crusoe island. IIRC, the Kon-Tiki went from Perú to Easter Island, and then westwards.

The Robinson Crusoe and Alexander Selkirk islands exist. They're called (with a third island) the Juan Fernandez archipelago, and located 674 km off the coast of Valparaiso.

Alexander Selkirk was an actual person, from Largo, Fife, Scotland, who lived at the island during four years. He inspired Daniel Defoe's story "Robinson Crusoe".

It is in the South Pacific Ocean in the Chilean Archipielago. Three Islands form this Archipielago: Robinson Crusoe, Santa Clara and Alejandro Selkirk. The Chilean Government named this Island in 1966 "Robinson Crusoe" inspired by the Novel because these Islands were the "actual" location where the author (Daniel Defoe) of Robinson Crusoe referred to in such novel.

Note: Yes Alejandro Selkirk was a Castaway in the island for four years.
