It is a beautiful and romantic place, but it does tend to get over run by tourists. It's relatively safe, but don't let your guard down or you could become a robbery victim. I've been there several time and never had a problem.

Its a great place to go for a tourist. But if you want to see the real Guatemala go to the Highlands and the small towns and villages. Now thats real. The people there are great.

Great place, and yes, very romantic. Cobble stone streets, lots of old churches, small cozy hotels. Very beautiful.
Though it tends to get over run by tourists.

i've been in antigua for 2 months studying spanish. and i would say it was the best 2 months of my life. the vibe is totally different. without the danger and risk of living in the capital city, its bery safe and clean.

It is my favorite city in Guatemala. So worth the trip. You will love it. The architecture is Colonial, the people are friendly, and I really enjoyed the food. I would recommend the Hibiscus Juice (Agua de Jamaica) YUM...and also an excellent restaurant called "La Fonda de la Calle Real" YUMMMMM

I live in Guatemala and i think Antigua is a very nice place and you should visit it. It is very romantic at nights or on days too. So don't listen to the people that say that Guatemala is very dangerous...this is NOT true. I was born and still living in Guatemala. So it is a cool place two travle try it.
