Do you think it was ok for theodore roosevelt to take over panama to build the canal?

When roosevelt took over panama to build the panama canal, he took it from columbia, was it good or bad?
he did for panama, and our own good.

For Panama? Noooooo... he did it for himself and his country... It kind of helped us get our independence, but he didn‘t do it because of us... he knew the canal was going to be a strategic point in the world, and he wanted control over it.

Sure it was OK for him, I’m Colombian and we had started to built the canal with some French men, thing that you the Americans didn't like so much. Therefore when we had a civil war the American troops where in the frontier and told then to declare themselves independent (they didn’t really wanted to they thought they fitted well in our society) with many promises.
It was so wrong that the US even gave some money to compensate (it was about $5’000.000 USD).

Hope it helps

It wasn't as simple as that. There were decades of deals going on before Roosevelt's presidency; Panama eventually declared independence from Colombia and sold the site to the US.

Also research the Hay-Bunau-Varilla treaty.
