Are you kidding me?!?!? Those other answers are totally wrong!
I spent about a month in Peru this summer. Believe me the economy is not in such good shape.
Yes, most people are happy. But they don't live in very good conditions.
There was this one place I went, I think it was called Pachacutec or something, and they literally live in cardboard houses with tin roofs. Their dollar, or as it's called there the Sol, is going down and down and down in value. Just like here.
Crime is also rising in many places, especially Lima. You can't even go out on the streets by yourself at night, especially if you're a woman, without the chance of getting mugged or something. That's how desperate some of the Peruvians have gotten. Most places would rather take an American dollar than a Sol.
Don't get me wrong, it's an AMAZING country, and I recommend anyone and everyone who can speak fluent, or close to fluent, Spanish to visit. It truly is amazing, but it's economy isn't doing too well. |

Peru's economy is much better than a decade ago, it is based mainly in mining exports, being agriculture mainly self based, except for some coastal agriculture. The level of industrialization is still growing and kinda basic.
Our growing rate and IGP are among the best in the continent. |
