Walmart bought a costarrican franchise called: "Mas x Menos", it means more stuff for less money. BUT, they are doing the transition very slowwww, because they don't know how the people is going to react to the change, since Mas x Menos is part of our culture. The colors, in both store are the same, the same smiling face, but the name is different.
Now, you only can find the Mas x Menos stores in big cities. Tamarindo is a small one. BUT, Tamarindo has everything you could ever need: groceries stores, gas stations, rent a car, restaurants, etc.
They also have several pharmacies. You don't need prescription and everything is a fraction of the cost of the US.
The funny thing about this, is that, the people with money, goes to Mas x Menos because is nicer, isn't funny??? walmart franchise in Costa Rica (tiny, third world country) CLEAN, the fruits, vegetables and meat are the best.... (of course the products and the workers are from Costa Rica)hahahaha |

Several years ago Wal Mart bought majority stock in Central America's largest supermarket conglomerate. There are six stores that they now control throughout Central America (Hiper Mas, Mas e Menos, Super Bodega, etc.) They are slowly introducing "Wal Mart" products into these markets. But don't expect to walk into these stores in Costa Rica and they look familiar or similar to a US Wal Mart. Relax you will be able to find everything you need in Costa Rica. Pura Vida! |
