I am planning a trip to south america and central america in september. I am not really sure where to start and finish so am looking for any advise on routes to take at this time of year.... should I ...
Me and my friends want to go somewhere as our senior trip but we are not sure where yet. Where should we go that's hot year round and full of latin/hispaic culture???...
I recommend it, I have been there too. I spent a couple of weeks there and had a great time. There is plenty to do, I arrived by taking a 3 day jeep trip from San Pedro de Atacamas in Chile, on the Bolivian side of the border we were priveliged to see the most amazing scenery, as well as mudpools, geysirs etc. We finished by crossing the Salar de Uyuni a truly amazing spectacle before going on and staying in the town of the same name.
La Paz situated in the middle of a volcano crater is a must for markets and colours, perhaps not offering as much as other S.American cities it is still well worth a stop.
Potosi is intersting you can go down into the old silver mines but not if you are claustrophobic, give them a miss.
You can then continue on to Lake Titicaca, it shares a border with Peru but being the highest navigable lake in the world it is good to see and then take a trip to one of its many islands.

hey my friend don't waste your time...
you should come to buenos aires argentina
by far the best place in latin america
you have the best nightlife (clubs here open at 2 am and close at 7 am)
beautiful people
lots of parks and green spaces
beautiful arquitecture
the standard of living here is much higher than the rest of latin america so you will feel safer than anywhere else
good luck

Yes, it is a very exotic country. The indigenous cultures--Aymara Quechua, Guarani etc are very interesting. I recommend going on a holiday or carnaval when all the dance troupes parade. There is Lake Titicaca-- Bolivia has the holy Inca islands of the sun and moon. There are the salares de Yuni which is one of the world's largest salt flats, Madidi national park in Amazonia is one of the most bio-diverse places in the world. Sucre and Potosi are colonial cities full of buildings dating from the 1500s and there are the Franciscan missions out of Santa Cruz to name a few. It is really great, the tourist infrastructure is not as well developed as in Peru but violence is lower also.

There is some neat mountain scenery and there is lake Titicaca near La Paz the highest lake in the world. I was there years ago and that's all I can think of .Probably Macchu Picchu in Peru might be a better choice.
